Safer Communities
Across Scotland Serco is delivering innovative services to reduce crime and improve public safety; working with a range of partners and agencies to create safer streets for Scottish citizens, whilst ensuring value for money for the taxpayer.
We help to protect the Scottish public by managing offenders securely, safely, and with dignity in custody and the community. Entrusted to manage Scotland's only privately-run prison, HMP Kilmarnock, Serco staff provide 640 male prisoners with the support and skills they need to live a stable, healthy, law-abiding life after the end of their sentence - whilst ensuring they face up to the consequences of their crimes.
We maximise offenders' chances of successful resettlement by working with a range of partners to deliver rehabilitation and education. For example, the team at HMP Kilmarnock has played a significant part in saving ex-prisoners' lives in Ayrshire by stemming the worrying rise in post-release drug-related deaths.
From our operational hub at East Kilbride Serco is responsible for electronic monitoring services across the whole of Scotland. This vital work is restoring stability to sometimes chaotic lifestyles - crucial to halting the cycle of reoffending. Curfew orders can be used for people awaiting trial, as an alternative to custody or as part of an early release from prison scheme.
Meanwhile, our road safety partnerships are making roads safer - through the installation, maintenance and calibration of speed and red light cameras. The partnership with Gatsometer BV won the Prince Michael Road Safety Premier Award for its role in reducing accidents and saving lives.
