Serco, committed to keeping Scotland's citizens on the move

Delivering

a range of complete transport solutions for towns and cities across Scotland

Public Transport Solutions

Serco is committed to a journey to help Scottish citizens get from A to B, as safely, efficiently and economically as possible. A range of complete transport solutions for towns and cities across Scotland are bringing significant benefits to passengers and local communities alike.

From Inverness to Gretna, from Edinburgh to Glasgow, covering an approximate area of road network 200 miles north-south by 60 miles east-west, Serco is entrusted to operate Scotland's national driver information and control system (NADICS). As one of the world's largest traffic control systems, the system is helping to manage the throughput of traffic, improve safety, and lower environment impacts on Scotland's road network.

No longer do the citizens of Glasgow have to experience the frustration of waiting hours for a bus and then seeing three arrive at once. Serco on behalf of Glasgow City Council, is running a bus fleet management system that monitors general traffic and bus operating conditions along the routes, and grants priority for buses at traffic signals. With fewer buses queuing at lights, emissions are reduced and traffic flow is improved.

Serco's rail property services are making a difference too. At Prestonpans Station a suburban link to Edinburgh, has played a crucial role in Transport Scotland's mission to improve the East Coast main line. The car-parking enhancement project is improving station access, especially for wheelchair users and people with impaired mobility.

In the private sector, we operate SCATSTA Airport on Shetland, which serves as a vital stepping stone in the supply of equipment and personnel to the oil industry in and around Sullom Voe. The secondary support airport run by Serco on the north of the Island ensures continued transportation for the local community in times of emergency.

Whatever the challenge, Serco is a credible partner for the management and operation of public transport and the delivery of integrated urban traffic management and control systems. We are continuing to work with a range of stakeholders - Transport Scotland, Scottish Executive, Local Authorities, and private sector organisations - to keep Scotland's citizens on the move.
