Regional Maintenance Contracts UK
Serco introduced the concept of third-party maintenance to the UK motorway authorities in the 1970s. Under Regional Maintenance Contractor (RMC) contracts, Serco provides routine maintenance and fault repair services for all motorway communications equipment for 3 of the 6 motorway regions. This service operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and includes emergency telephones, variable message and gantry signs and control office communications equipment. Serco is also in daily contact with the Police Control Offices (PCO) in the regions where we operate.
South West Motorways contract
Serco first won the South West Motorways contract in 1984 and have been continuously providing technology maintenance services in the region since this time. The contract covers the M5 motorway from Devon to the Avon/Gloucester border and along the M4 from the Severn Bridge, through Wiltshire, to the Thames Valley. Serco has been successful in securing a key role in the delivery of the Area 2 Enhanced Managing Agent Contract (EMAC) to the Highways Agency (HA). Serco is working with InterRoute, RCS and Matt MacDonald Joint Venture to deliver the service.
M25 North and M25 South East contracts
We have also recently been awarded a one year extension on the M25 North contract and a 2 year extension to the M25 South East. This high profile region includes some of Europe’s busiest motorways and the Channel Tunnel gateway to Europe. It requires a well-planned and managed maintenance programme and a fast and effective response to all equipment faults.
These are very busy areas of the M25 motorway and the HA is looking at future developments that will deliver greater operational and maintenance efficiency through a Technical Managing Agent Contract (TechMAC).
