Rail

Our joint venture partnership with Dutch train operator NedRailways has been acclaimed for its performance on Merseyrail. This is a 75 mile urban network that is of vital importance to the transport infrastructure of Liverpool and Merseyside.

In late 2004, Serco-NedRailways took over operations of the UK’s largest passenger rail franchise, Northern Rail, the largest contract in Serco and one of the two biggest train operating franchises in the UK. Annual turnover for the operation approaches £500 million and the geographical spread is from the Scottish border to a line from the Mersey to the Humber.

Our partnership approaches are crucial as we run both railway operations along with the Passenger Transport Executives. We are recognised as unique in the way that we engage with our stakeholders.
