Metro Service

Metro ServiceThe Metro is an automated urban light rail system linking the city of Copenhagen and the surrounding locality. The system was designed to relieve the pressure on the existing rail networks serving the area.

The Metro runs 24-hours a day for commuters travelling short distances. With a top speed of 80 KM/h, the trains run three times faster than a city bus. The Metro currently carries in the region of 2.9 million passengers every month with a forecasted 77 million passengers per year by 2010.

Fully automated system and trains
The trains are fully automatic with no drivers and are monitored from a Control and Maintenance Centre. Metro stewards are available on each train and at stations to assist passengers, check tickets and provide general information. The automated system allows for longer trains to be split providing more frequent departures enabling catch up on delays and maintaining Metro Services exemplary target of providing 98% service reliability.

Since 2002 Serco has provided all operational and maintenance services, revenue protection, customer service and public relations for the Metro.
