Infrastructure
Serco is investing significantly in providing leading technology solutions for measuring, installing, operating and maintaining road and rail infrastructures. As well as providing vital services within the UK, the company has built global working relationships by developing solutions in traffic management.
Serco’s rail track monitoring and rail test services are helping to improve safety and reliability throughout much of the UK’s rail infrastructure. With the UK leading the way in its revolutionary new technology, the company is looking to encourage take-up of its services in other territories.
Rail
Serco specialises in infrastructure measurement, testing, analysis, repair and maintenance of the railways. Serco operates rail vehicles to examine different areas of the railway infrastructure to provide data on track quality, overhead line alignment, structure gauging and rail grinding. Our pioneering unattended track geometry measurement system utilises in-service rather than specialist trains to collect high quality performance data to improve safety and performance and reduce maintenance costs.
Serco has developed software to produce accurate and frequent measurement data in a comprehensive format that will revolutionise the UK rail industry. The development of computer manipulation and laser technology has enabled current processes to be speeded up considerably, with the ability to record data on a daily basis. This advanced development in technology will provide a more detailed understanding of the railway infrastructure and will create a completely automated survey.
Road
Serco has been installing, controlling, operating and maintaining the infrastructure and information systems on road networks for 30 years and now maintains nearly half of the roadside equipment in England.
Serco can draw on its vast operational experience and investments in roadside infrastructure to maintain the highways effectively and efficiently. Our portfolio includes roadside gantry signage for speed control, travel information and hazard messaging, signalling, circuit television systems for monitoring, surveillance and speed charging, tolling and charging systems, roadside general maintenance and maintenance of the emergency telephones.
