Resettlement
Serco is committed to working to reduce reoffending in custody and in the community. In our prisons we work hard to prepare prisoners for a law-abiding, fulfilling life after release. We offer education ranging from basic skills to advanced IT and multimedia, as well as vocational training in carpentry, welding, painting and decorating and other crafts. We also provide drug and alcohol treatment programmes and courses designed to help prisoners address the causes of their offending behaviour and avoid it in future.
We work with a wide range of agencies in the community to give prisones the best possible start after release. We try and find them housing, jobs or training and at Doncaster prison even help them open bank accounts before they leave so they can easily receive their first week’s wages.
Serco has formed a pioneering alliance with two voluntary sector organisations to provide resettlement services in the community. Working with Turning Point and Rainer, our Path2Work programme works with offenders and employers in the east of England to find appropriate employment and then help individuals stay in work – supporting and mentoring them through their first months in a job.
