Community monitoring

Serco provides electronic monitoring of asylum seekers and illegal immigrants in the community, as an alternative to detention which allows the Government to maintain contact with them while their cases are being processed.

Monitoring techniques include electronic tagging - requiring a subject to be at home at given times - satellite-enabled GPS tracking, and voice verification. Voice verification requires a subject to make a phone call from a specified telephone within a set time-frame. Automated voice recognition and telephone number identification ensures the subject is at the required location when making the call.

Serco provides this monitoring service as a pilot scheme for the UK Immigration Service.
