Air and Land Services
Our air and land business combines support to the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) with our UK civil aviation operations, and lies at the origins of Serco’s relationship with the MOD - the company’s first ever defence contract, which we still have today, was awarded in 1963 to maintain the UK’s Ballistic Missile Early Warning System at RAF Fylingdales.
We provide operational, engineering and training services to the Royal Air Force and the flying arms of the Army and Royal Navy. Our main focus is on improving the availability of aircraft and aircrew to the front line, including the Lynx, Merlin and Apache helicopters and a number of fixed wing aircraft.
By embracing lean and integrated operational support principles to reduce waste and improve efficiency, we are able to lower the cost of through-life support whilst maximising equipment availability. We are applying these principles to our bid to run the UK’s search and rescue helicopter service. Serco has joined with Bristow Helicopters and FB Heliservices to form UK Air Rescue, a joint venture that combines all of the skills and experience necessary to deliver a world class search and rescue service.
