HMP Doncaster has maintained strong links with its local community over many years. For example, the prison's annual Jail and Bail Day brings together prisoners and the public to raise funds for good causes. This year, they donated a total of £13,000 to the town's Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice.

The money came in the form of bail paid by members of the local business community after they were arrested and sent to jail by ex-boxer Tommy Joyce, a popular local celebrity. The prisoners played their part by making donations and items on behalf of the hospice.

The prison has now launched its own website, www.hmpdoncaster.com. As well as providing news and information from inside, the website focuses on the work that staff are doing to prevent prisoners re-offending once they are released back into the community.
